MEMORY CODE is a project with the central focus on the human memory. Originally developed as an audio/video live performance the duo SCHNITT based their research for this work on the decoding of their personal memory.During the composition of the album, Schnittundergoes an inspection and analysis of their own conserved informations, automatisms and intense emotional states connecting them with their current state of mind. The album Memory Code is developed in nine tracks, each one dedicated to a certain type of memory in which successions of layers gradually become visible and emerge in the soundstructuregenerating a balance between subtle personal sensations and vibrations.Crumbled fragments of memory -undefined and blurred combine and overlap, a disorderly flow of events subordinated to rigid mathematical structures are finding a location in the sound space interposed between past echoes and future moments. For the realization of the album MEMORY CODE, SCHNITT extends their work inviting several international artists to participate with their personal sound memory to the project, asking them to send one or more “ memory sound files” in order to integrate and open the project to other artistic influences, different cultural backgrounds, national origins and generations. The "memory file" contributions received by the eleven guest artists Caterina Barbieri, Ignacio Aguilera Bericochea, TilmanEhrhorn, Anders Ilar, Incite/, VitorJoaquim, Herman Kolgen, Ran Slavin, TacitGroup, Fransde Waardand Pavel Zhagunare integrated as a micro ignition of memory into the sound structures previously developed by SCHNITT, as well as being an initial input for new compositions in behalf of the Memory Code album. The contribution of the former Dutch artist Goem-Fransde Waardis a tape recording of his first sound experiments dated 1981, some fragments of these recordings revive in the Explicit memorytrack that takes shape on the numerical repetitive structures created by the CoreanTacit Group and the electronic sound bits of the Portuguese artist VitorJoaquim. Fransde Waard’srecordings also face the sonorous contrast memory sound of the young Italian artist Caterina Barberiin Implicit memory. In the track Echoic Memory Caterina Barbieri’sharmonic memory sample intertwines in the composition that develops on a clear and minimal rhythmic base extracted from the memory file of the former Minus Ignacio Aguilera Bericochea. In addition to I.A Bericochea, Echoic Memorycollects also the memory sounds of VitorJoaquim and the Russian artist Pavel Zhagunwho is also present in the track Short -Term Memory.Eidetic memoryopens with a contribution of the Hamburg based audio visual duo Incite/ alongside noisy memories of the Swedish artist Anders Ilar, also present in Sensory Memory.TilmanEhrhorn’smemory files that contribute to Echoic Memoryare originated from three different devices that the germanartist himself programmed and combined in a concrete way with personal experiences from the past. The trackEpisodic Memorycontains the environmental sounds recorded in various periods and parts of the world by the Canadian artist Herman Kolgenalongside the contributions of the Israeli Ran Slavin.
